Seriation
Like communities of living
organisms, styles evolve and change through time. As an individual style
becomes prominent and declines, it creates a pattern in the archaeological
record termed a "battleship curve". A relative chronology
can be established by tracing the evolution of these battleship curves
through time. Using
frequency seriation (i.e. the principal of battleship curves), please
answer the questions below.
1. The ceramic finds from 10 undated sites are represented below by
vessel symbols. Each vessel symbol represents 20 vessels of that type
found at the site. List the sites according to their relative chronology.
