     In completing this task, either submit comments to the brainstorming Brainstorming Forum, or go directly to the Hints, which review how the tasks fulfill the Standards.

Student Population:   For Grade 12 with two years of German
Text: "Computer ohne 'Zeitgefühl'"

Task 2:   (Task subsequent to topic introduction via discussion of global issues involved, reading of "The Day the World Shuts Down," and accessing students' knowledge and understanding of the "00-Problem")

Student Assignment:  Small groups find 5-6 phrases for a particular segment that refer to the "00-Problem" (e.g., "Jahresdatum [mit] lediglich zwei Stellen," "weltweiten Umstellungskosten," etc.), German solutions to the problem (e.g., "preiswerte Programmierzeit in Rumänien oder Indien," "Berliner Konferenz," etc.)

Outcome:  Students apply their knowledge of a problem facing the international product, the computer, in a German context.  They identifying the names of major firms and institutions that influence practices for addressing this problem.
