reader-audience
(GOAL: understanding of self confirmed by self-expression)
text contexts
In the Communication Standards, the readers assume priority, with their goals at the apex of the triad. As readers seek to realize their own purposes, their reading energy is directed toward, yet nonetheless divided between the text and the communication goals they have set for themselves. They will read with an eye towards the kind of information they want to communicate, the feelings and emotions they feel comfortable expressing as part of that communication, and the exchange of opinion on topics they expect from their communication partners. The reader-audience is thus him- or herself at stake, and each reader reads to balance what he or she learns with the audience's capacity to enjoy and benefit from sharing that communication.
